Parts of a Kitchen/Bathroom Faucet You Didn’t Know About!

Parts of a faucet/faucet parts

The faucet is of paramount importance since it not only helps us to keep ourselves hygienic but also serves the purpose of giving a stylish look to our bathroom/kitchen.

With time, the manufacturing process of a faucet has changed because of the demand pertaining to its modern look and durability without costing an arm and a leg.

Because of its importance and the need to replace the faucet every now & then due to its excessive usage, we will be discussing parts of a faucet along with their functioning. It will help you to know that only a single part of a faucet requires replacement or the entire faucet needs to be changed.

Without further ado, let’s discuss all the faucet parts in detail!

▪ Aerators on Taps

Aerators are placed at the faucet’s tip and made of mesh, which aids in breaking the water into numerous streams as part of achieving a proper amalgamation of water and air. This not only helps in the smoother flow of water (without splashing) but also ensures that its flow is optimum.

Moreover, the presence of mesh filters out all the debris, which undoubtedly results in improving the quality of water flowing from it.

What serves as icing on the cake is that the debris can easily be cleaned by taking out the aerator.

▪ Spout of the Faucet

The spout is the part that gets our attention first whenever we look at the faucet because of its design. It plays a pivotal role in delivering the water from the faucet to the sink, but due to its distinctive design, the reach of water differs based on the faucet’s spout.

For example, long reach is possible with a straight spout. On the other hand, a gooseneck spout, which has a high-arc shape, looks not only sophisticated but also helps in filling deep vessels. Also, there are hands-free faucets, which can be turned on using sensors or foot pedals.

▪ Faucet Handle

We all know that a faucet handle helps in turning on and off the faucet. But its functioning is not just limited to that, since the handle of the faucet also helps in controlling the water flow from the faucet. Moreover, we can control the water temperature through the handle only which it achieves via opening and closing of the valve.

Some faucets have two handles as well where one handle is used for controlling the on/off mechanism and the other controls the temperature of the water.

▪ Faucet Body

In the body of the faucet, the hot and cold water are mixed before they pass through the spout. Commonly, the faucets with single and double handles have a cold and hot water in a one-piece casting or single casting coupled with the presence of cartridge valves.

If a faucet has a wider body than usual, then three holes are required where hot and cold water is mixed. We have a hidden third hole beneath the counter where the cold and hot water is essentially mixed together.

▪ Cartridge Valves

The cartridge is made up of metals or plastics and helps in regulating not just the water flow but also the temperature. The better the cartridge the better the chances of minimizing the water leakage from the faucet. Therefore, to reduce such issues, bath fitting companies deploy ceramic to build cartridges of better quality. These ceramic cartridges help in avoiding any leakage because they are not impacted by the hard water deposits.

If you ever feel like replacing your cartridge valve or a faucet, we suggest you buy it directly from the bath fitting manufacturers.

The above blog clearly highlights how important knowing the parts of a faucet can be since, with proper knowledge, detecting the flaw in the faucet will be like a cakewalk.

You would be knowing all the tricks to handle the situation by yourself: Water not splashing properly? Check the aerator; Unable to control the temperature? Go for the valves, and so on.

And if none of the above remedies works, just change the faucet!
